What are Chyrons

Hello Everyone,

Its Josh here from Loveridge Designs, this week on “Getting into it with Loveridge Designs” We are going to cover ‘Chyrons’ also known as lower thirds,

A lower third is a graphical overlay put in the title-safe lower region of the screen, which is used to visually give the viewers details that they don’t get from somewhere else, typically a mixture of text and graphics are used in lower thirds.

The lower thirds are often ignored, but it’s important to get them right in fact. It’s a difficult balance, they have to look excellent, but they have to be simple to digest and also support the visuals of the piece that gives more meaning to whatever is displayed on screen.

Lower thirds can be a multi – functional tool as well. You may be using them to illustrate an interviewee’s name and position, you may even want to tell your audience the place of your current visuals.

If you’ve got your lower thirds right, like many other aspects of life, they shouldn’t stick out at all. Rather, while clearly conveying the details that you need to get across, they should blend into your piece.
Before I go, I would just like to wish everyone a very merry christmas and a happy new year from the whole Loveridge Designs team.

Thank you very much for taking the time to watch the video i hope you found it both informative and engaging ,

Until next time
