Its Josh here from Loveridge Designs, this week on “Getting into it with Loveridge Designs” We are going to cover the importance of pacing in video production.

So what does it mean?

Pacing, as the word suggests, relates to the video’s pace. In a short period of time, quick-paced content pieces can have swift and quick cuts, whereas a slow-paced piece is more likely to have slower scenes, with not a lot of cuts.

As every other aspect of the art, pacing in video production is a craft. Slow or quick, no one has the right way to pace a video. Content creators, instead, decide the tone they want a scene to follow and use their experience to construct the pacing that conveys the proper information. The emotional timbre will vary from scene to scene and even within the same scene, as you know from viewing any video. This is where the editing pace and momentum comes into the fold.

Pacing is used in a scene to evoke a certain mood. Sluggish pacing can draw in and create suspense for viewers. Quick pacing can be an outstanding asset to illustrate a scene’s dramatic action. Standard pacing acts as the pace of daily life in between these two extremes. A sense of peace for viewers is created by this form of pacing. At this particular moment, nothing out of the norm is going on.
The pacing of a video does not only have to fit the imagery, but also the audio. Its rhythm can be influenced by the song playing in a specific scene. A scene featuring quick and exciting tracks, for instance, would probably work better being faster paced.

Any content can be filmed and performed wonderfully, but the wrong editing decisions can interrupt or even destroy the story. The hypothetical guy behind the curtain will be an exceptional video editor. All he or she does is behind the scenes, slowly crafting and creating the narrative.
