What Are Leading Lines?

Hello Everyone,

Its Josh here from Loveridge Digital, this week on “Getting into it with Loveridge Digital” we are going to cover what Leading Lines are!

Leading lines are composed of elements in your composition that guide and “lead” your eye from the borders of the frame. Leading lines are known to create an image that is not only well composed but is also aesthetically appealing, they also can be cleverly used to draw a viewers eyes to a certain subject.

The best example of a leading line that i could give would be a wooden bridge. Bridges are a piece of architecture that empower us to travel to a destination, they could be said to “lead” us, They provide you with a sense of movement, and the edges of the bridge are often seen to point inwards until the vanishing point is reached, The vanishing point is where separate lines cross paths and then continue into infinity.

When used correctly and tastefully Leading lines not only establish distance and complexity in a scene but they pull the observer into the frame.

Leading lines can be seen in numerous places throughout the world we live in.The difficult thing .
is to identify leading lines and structuring them in your scene so
they serve a purpose and guide the viewer to your subject

Leading lines should always be considered when creating a composition, without careful consideration they can work against you! Leading lines are a hidden gem that can take a mediocre composition and turn it into something that is not only breathtaking but effective,

Thank you very much for taking the time to watch the video, I hope you found it informative and engaging, until next time.
