What are Screen Tests?

Hello Everyone,

It’s Josh here from Loveridge Digital, this week on “Getting into it with Loveridge Digital” we are going to cover Screen tests.

You just concocted the latest concept or idea for a new advertisement for your brand and it’s a big one, Their is going to be a high budget and a lot of moving parts to this project, Their will be items in the piece where you will you only have the opportunity to capture them in one take during production and you need to be sure that everything will be in place and that the actors on the shoot day will know what to do and will fit the role. In the situation, I just described, a screen test would be used.

A screen test is a filmed audition in which an actor shows you their skill by acting the scene in question out while being recorded. During the screen test it is also very common for the actors to be in costume and have their makeup and color done for the test to ensure they are suited not only from a skill perspective but also from a visual perspective.

Screen tests give you the ability to gain an insight into what the actor will be like on the day and to enable you to get those shots where their may be only one chance to grab the scene, This, in turn, is invaluable for any project especially when it comes to budgeting as missing out on those shots could be catastrophic to not only your project timelines but the budget also!

Next time you are thinking of an idea for your next big marketing video be sure to keep screen tests in mind as they can be the difference between a failed project and a successful one and while they do add a little bit of extra expense to a projects budget they can be a life saver.

Thank you very much for taking the time to watch the video, I hope you found it informative and engaging, until next time.
