What is the Magic hour?
Hello Everyone,
It’s Josh here from Loveridge Digital. This week on “Getting Into It with Loveridge Digital”, we’re covering what the “Magic Hour” is.
Now, you might be thinking, “Josh, haven’t you talked about this before?” If so, great memory! But actually, the Magic Hour is quite different from the Golden Hour, which we discussed previously. The two terms are often confused, which is why you may have come to that conclusion.
What is the Magic Hour?
The Magic Hour refers to the time just after sunset and before sunrise. In contrast, the Golden Hour occurs before sunset and after sunrise. What makes the Magic Hour unique is its ability to produce stunning golden, blue, and pink hues in the sky. Cinematographers often use this time to highlight vast cityscapes, with an almost purple glow lighting up the skyline.
Why Does It Matter?
For content creators, the Magic Hour is a powerful tool for setting mood and atmosphere. It creates a dreamy, almost surreal quality, often associated with relaxation and finality. In blockbuster films, you’ll often see the final scene featuring a protagonist gazing over a breathtaking landscape during the Magic Hour—it subtly reinforces a sense of closure.
There’s also a psychological element to it. As humans, our brains associate the soft lighting of the Magic Hour with winding down for the night, making it a perfect time to evoke feelings of calmness and completion.
Experience It for Yourself
The Magic Hour is something we’ve all witnessed, even if we didn’t realise it at the time. Next time you’re outside around dusk, take a moment to recognise it—and soak in those breathtaking views.
Thanks for watching the video! I hope you found it informative and engaging. Until next time!
