What is the Magic hour?

Hello Everyone,

It’s Josh here from Loveridge Digital, this week on “Getting into it with Loveridge Digital” we are going to cover what the Magic hour is.

Firstly you may say to yourself, “Josh, you definitely have talked about this before ” and if you came to that conclusion then you have a good memory but unfortunately the magic hour is actually quite different to the golden hour which we spoke about before, The term golden hour and magic hour often get confused which is why you may have came to the above conclusion.

Ok so what is the magic hour? The magic hour is usually the hour after sunset and before sunrise. Comparing this to the golden hour, which is before sunset and after sunrise. What makes the magic hour unique is that it is well known for producing beautiful Golden blue, and pink hues in the sky, you will often see cinematographers using the magic hour to highlight vast cityscapes with a almost purple hue lighting up the skyline.

Now that we have answered the what its time to discuss the “Why”,

The magic hour allows us as content creators to create an almost dreamy mood and atmosphere in our content, it can be utilized to create a sense of relaxation and finality to a scene, often times in blockbuster movies you will see the final scene of the film where the protagonist is sat gazing over a vast landscape during the magic hour as it further embodies that feeling of a completion, this is also a subconscious trick too as our brains are wired to start to settle down when we witness the magic hour as at nighttime we sleep.

The magic hour is something that every one has experienced but few actually know they have experienced it, Next time you are outside around dusk, see if you can recognize the magic hour and be sure to take in those beautiful views

Thank you very much for taking the time to watch the video, I hope you found it informative and engaging, until next time.
